No, not some crazy dope vintage joints that I scored in some random garage sale. I’m talking about the rich people Locs, with the dinner plate logo on the side complete with those gaudy ass rhinestones. What an embarrassment. The year was 2006, and at that time I unfortunately used music videos and public appearances from celebrities as inspiration for my own wardrobe. The trend at the time? You guessed it. Rappers from Houston to Harlem wearing all sorts of flashy gear.
Now mind you, I still have a thing for Cazals and some vintage Versace silk shirts. But anything with rhinestones in them? Majorly, majorly, majorly suspect. I’m just glad the rhinestone trend never made it to my belts or jeans. At that point my ringtone might as well have been “Rhinestone Cowboy.”
