Retna and El Mac are a dynamic duo of artists that represent the culture of LA pretty well. My lady drives past one of her favorites of theirs every morning on the way to work and suggested we head out for a quick shoot. It’s titled “The Knight.” As soon as the lady saw what I was wearing, she wanted the post to be titled “Cholo Sin Barrio,” or “Cholo Without A Hood” for the non-Spanish speakers. You know, since I never have and never will be banging on anyone. Anytime I wear tube socks and Cortezes, my dude OJ calls me Ese Locc, so I decided to run with it this time around.
I love Chucks and Air Force Ones, but Cortezes are synonymous with the greater LA area. I wanted to put on for my city while not necessarily looking like I was from any particular set while pairing certain cholo-ish things together. Were I wearing pants, I might have opted for the top buttons being buttoned up and a white tee underneath, but it didn’t look quite right with shorts so I’ll save it for Fall. Also, for first time buyers of Cortezes, order at least a half size up. They run dumb small. I almost went with Dickies shorts too, but that type of outfit would have been too obvious for what I was going for. So Primitive won out this day. More photo safaris showcasing the two talented artists coming very soon. Boogie out!
